GRAND MOFF TARKIN

Cold, calculating, and utterly devoted to the ideals of the Galactic Empire, Wilhuff Tarkin rose to become one of the most powerful men in the galaxy. Long before the Empire’s rise, Tarkin had already distinguished himself as an officer of the Galactic Republic, where his uncompromising methods and belief in strict order first began to shape his worldview.

A firm believer that fear was the most effective tool of governance, Tarkin helped shape the doctrine that overwhelming displays of power could keep entire star systems in line without the need for endless military campaigns. Entrusted by Emperor Palpatine with vast authority over the Outer Rim, Tarkin commanded fleets and armies with ruthless efficiency. His ultimate instrument of control was the Death Star, the Empire’s planet-destroying battle station and the ultimate embodiment of his philosophy. To demonstrate its power, and enforce the Empire’s rule through terror, Tarkin ordered the destruction of Alderaan, annihilating the peaceful world in a single devastating blast.

Yet Tarkin’s faith in absolute power would also seal his fate. When the Rebel Alliance launched a desperate assault on the Death Star above Yavin, the Grand Moff refused to evacuate, confident that no attack could threaten his weapon. Moments later, the battle station (and Tarkin with it) was destroyed, proving that even the Empire’s greatest symbol of fear was not invincible.
